CBG the mother of all cannabinoids
As you may or may not know, ‘CBD’ itself is actually only one molecule of many that are contained within full spectrum CBD products. CBD, or cannabidiol, is undoubtedly one of the most prevalent cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, but there are actually 147 in total – many of which have also been proven in studies to have additional health benefits. (this is why ‘full spectrum’ is always best!). CBG (aka cannabigerol) is one such cannabinoid.

CBG – a special compound that is worth knowing about
What is CBG?
CBG It’s often referred to as the ‘the mother cannabinoid’ as it’s the first cannabinoid the plant produces and it’s the one that forms all other cannabinoids, like the most prevalent CBD (cannabidiol). As the plant continues to grow, the CBG production declines. Plants are now bred to have an increased amount of CBG present and it can also be isolated and then added to CBD oil to increase its CBG content. These 2 methods are used to create our CBG Enhanced CBD.
CBG and the Endocannabinoid System
First, a mini explainer on what the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is:
We all have an ECS. In fact, all animals do, and have done for millions of years. Since it’s discovery in the 90s, we have gone on to realise that it’s perhaps the most important physiological system, as it’s job it to regulate all other systems and bodily functions. In short, it’s our in-built homeostatic regulator. Without it working as it should, nothing else works either.
The ECS kicks into gear when activated by neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids, which are created on demand to bring the body back into balance. Many factors can have a negative impact on the body’s ability to produce appropriate endocannabinoid levels, such as chronic stress, poor diet and and lack of quality sleep. When this occurs, just about anything can go wrong, so it’s vitally important to get your ECS going again.
CBD oil can help with this, due to the way the CBD molecule inhibits the enzyme that breaks endocannabinoids down, resulting in higher levels for longer when they are produced. However, there are cases where endocannabinoid levels are so low, or the ECS is so ‘offline’ that something that can actually stand in for endocannabinoids until they are being synthesised properly again.
CBG is a legal cannabinoid that also directly activates the ECS, providing many of the same actions as THC, like reducing muscle spasms, but without getting you stoned. Unlike the CBD molecule, CBG has the ability to directly activate ECS receptors, therefore allowing it to effectively stand in for our own endocannabinoids.
What do the studies say?
Although CBG oil is a novel food supplement, like CBD oil, the CBG molecule is being extensively explored as a potential therapeutic agent that might be used to combat multiple conditions in the future.
Some studies have shown that CBG may actually have even more potent anti-inflammatory properties than both CBD, while other findings suggest impressive neuroprotectant actions, meaning CBG could play an important role in the future treatment of in Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and Neuroinflammation. There’s also evidence to suggest CBG may also increase GABA levels, again, more than CBD or THC, which is something that often plays a key role in seizure control, muscle spasticity, sleep conditions and anxiety disorders.
As CBG is a naturally minor cannabinoid, it’s one the scientific world is a little less familiar with (in comparison to the abundance of studies looking into CBD). But, with results being positive so far, it’s understandable why so many people are now trying out CBG oils for themselves – and loving the experience!
“After thinking about using CBD oil for months I didn’t really know where to start. I looked on Instagram and saw this company, I sent a message to them and gave Kate a ring. Kate asked me lots of questions and recommended I try the 3% CBG enhanced CBD Oil. I’ve been taking it for almost 4 weeks, just 2 sprays under the tongue & can honestly say my anxiety is so much better, I’m sleeping better & my joints are aching a little less.
I’d recommend to anyone & will keep taking it”
